Ethiopia has suffered from the proliferation of serious and pervasive technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), hampering efforts towards gender equality. A qualitative study undertaken with the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) confirmed that Ethiopian women are targets of TFGBV, yet evidence underpinned by quantitative data was lacking, impeding efforts to address TFGBV. ADAGE aimed to analyse hate-containing posts on social media platforms used in Ethiopia. Its key outcomes include a lexicon of inflammatory keywords in four widely spoken Ethiopian languages, an annotated dataset of posts, and an in-depth analysis of this data which informed the creation of a policy and community-led recommendations whitepaper and a stakeholder conference in Addis Ababa.
