Contribution to a Workshop on AI Governance in Africa
From the 26th to the 27th of June 2025, Nuhu and Riza will be participating in a workshop "Beyond the Hype: Deconstructing Visions of AI Governance in Africa" focussing on contested visions of AI governance and ethics within the African context.
They will be presenting their paper "AI Models for Detecting and Generating Hate Speech: A Double-edged Sword with Ethiopian Policy Implications" which is currently under review for a forthcoming special issue of the Science and Public Policy journal.
Jointly organised by the Ethics, Technology and Society Group of ETH Zürich and the University of Leeds School of Law, the workshop will hold a closed session on the first day, dedicated to discussions of contributions to the special issue. The second day, however, will be open to the public and will focus on Africa-Europe AI governance interfaces.
