Thomas Flavel is a research associate at the University of Manchester, based in the Department of Computer Science. His current research is focused on the automated content analysis of televisual content from UK public service broadcasters. He has previously worked at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research on a project concerned with threats to representative democracy from the use of digital media. He holds DPhil in Information, Communication and the Social Sciences from the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. His thesis explored the impact of cosmopolitanism and border-level internet censorship evasion on the social organization, culture, and politics of Chinese youth.
